Memory Recapture | Childhood
By lucypho_ 12:00 PM memory recapture
I don't really know what triggered this but I have started to think back on my childhood and teenage years and what I remembered distinctly about those years. I think it would be a really cool post especially to look back and see how much of my memories have changed or even I still remember these moments years into the future.
So this is just 5 random childhood memories in no particular order really.
1. The first dream I can recall
I used to live in Adelaide and I remember various things from that house. One of the most prominent things that I remember is that the toilet was unusually tall, at least to a 1/2/3 year old, and the first dream I can recall centered around this. I remember that in my dream I was newly potty-trained/toilet trained and I needed to go toilet. When I sat on the toilet though, I fell inside the seat and shrank so that my whole body was inside the toilet and you could not see me from the outside. I proceeded to scream for help but nobody heard me. My mum then entered the bathroom needing to go toilet herself and I screamed to her 'NOOO! Mum don't go toilet!! I'm stuck in the toilet'. After that, I don't remember anything else but as random as it is, that is the first dream that I can recall.
2. Future songwriter?
When I was in primary school, I would go into my backyard after school and proceed to sing lyrics that I had made up. I am a horrible singer but back then, I thought I had a somewhat okay voice. My lyrics were always about how girls like dolls and Barbie while boys liked cars and Lego. This proceeded for another maybe 6 months to a year. I then found out that my neighbours had heard me singing when they came over one day and said to me that I sung pretty good (I think they were being kind LOL) but after that, I never really sang in my backyard again since I became somewhat self-conscious.
3. Fake sleeping
I don't know if anyone did this but all throughout primary school, when I was over one of my cousins' houses I would always pretend to fall asleep hoping that my parents would let me sleep over their house. My parents would then proceed to just carry me to our car and go home instead of just leaving me there. My parents never let me sleep over, even now, at anyone else's house apart from my own and hotels/apartments when I travel. So, when my parents decided to let me sleep over my cousin's house since I was "already asleep" in year 4, I was so excited and happy. I thought I was so cool sleeping over someone else's house LOL.
4. School Clubs
Back in primary school, my friends and I were in the same class for a lot of our primary school lives and we always ended up making a club. We would have a president and every one was assigned a role within the club and it was very official with "paperwork" and what not. We didn't do much within the club but we had one every year without fail.
5. First taste of vegemite
Sadly, I will be very un-Australian at the moment and say that I do not like the taste of Vegemite now but I loved the taste of it when I first tried it when I was about 8/9. My Year 1 teacher was on playground duty and was having vegemite thinly spread on a piece of Cruskit and I somehow managed to take a bit of it to eat. I think she thought I had no food for recess so was giving me some to be nice (I always did love my teachers) but I remember when I took that first bite, I was amazed and in love with it. I then purchased a small tub about a year or so later when grocery shopping with my mum and ate it the same way but it wasn't the same anymore for some reason. I've tried it again numerous times but to no success sadly :(
