reflecting
After the completion of my first year of uni, I have been able to reflect on the year that has passed so far. Though there is still a month to go until we welcome in 2013, the summer break has been filled with very little things that reflection is all I really do ...
2012 started out to quite exciting for me with my acceptance into my course and uni had only taken place and prospect of going uni quite exciting. It has always been the thought of my family that your life is pretty much primary school, high school, university, graduate school (if required) then go get a good and stable paying job. My brother is undertaking that path so I knew it was expected of me to go to uni but I wanted to go uni and further my education so that route was fine. When I told my parents what I wanted to do, my parents were initially against my chosen major especially for science (I'm currently undertaking a double degree). I knew that this path was what I wanted to do so I refused to budge and I told them that I would be responsible for anything that happened.
Once I started uni, my decision was set in stone. Going to the lectures, my interest in the area increased and I knew this is what I wanted to learn. Yes, my attention span in some of the lectures was limited due to the boring and monotoned lecturers but the information that I learnt intrigued me. Overall, I liked what I learnt in both semesters in both degrees.
However, I do have regrets about the year. I regret that I didn't join or participate more in uni groups/societies. By doing so, I could have exposed myself to more people and created more friendships during my first year of uni. I also regret that I was not more organised with my studies. Though I liked what I learnt, I didn't leave enough time to really study to fully maximise my marks. That will change for the next year ... I hope.
So all in all, this year was pretty good. For anyone who is about to enter uni, my advice is to pick something or subjects that interest you. If something interests you then you are more likely to pay attention to the information and be more willing to study and do well in it. Pick what you want to do and don't worry about others want you to do. I know this advice is said over and over again but it's good advice.
